The first release of the open-source PaaS platform Cozystack based on Kubernetes has been published. The project positions itself as a ready-made platform for hosting providers and a framework for building private and public clouds. The platform is installed directly on servers and covers all aspects of preparing the infrastructure for providing managed services. Cozystack allows you to launch and provide on-demand Kubernetes clusters, databases, and virtual machines<\/a>. The platform's code is available on GitHub and is distributed under the Apache-2.0 license.

The basic technology stack uses Talos Linux and Flux CD. Images of the system, kernel, and required modules are pre-formed and updated atomically, which eliminates the need for components like dkms and package managers, ensuring stable operation. <\/p>\n

To run of virtual machines<\/a> The KubeVirt technology is used, which allows running traditional virtual machines directly within Kubernetes containers and already has all the necessary integrations with the Cluster API for launching managed Kubernetes clusters within the 'bare metal' Kubernetes cluster. <\/p>\n

The platform includes an open implementation of a network fabric based on Kube-OVN and uses Cilium for organizing the service network, MetalLB for announcing services externally. Storage is implemented on LINSTOR, where the use of ZFS is offered as the base layer for storage and DRBD for replication. There is a pre-configured monitoring stack based on VictoriaMetrics and Grafana. <\/p>\n

One of the key features of the platform is a simple installation method in an empty data center using PXE and the debian-like installer talos-bootstrap. Despite commercial interest, the project is being developed by enthusiasts from the community and plans to always remain free. A request has been sent to transfer Cozystack under the wing of the CNCF (Cloud Native Computing Foundation).
