Cloud giant Amazon Web Services (AWS) has acquired a data center campus being built near the Susquehanna nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania, USA, from Talen Energy Corporation. According to Datacenter Dynamics, Talen announced the sale of the campus to a 'major cloud provider' just last week. An investor presentation revealed that this refers to AWS. The Cumulus Data campus, covering over 485 acres, was first announced in 2021 and is in close proximity to the 2.5 GW nuclear power plant owned by Talen. The company began construction in 2021 and completed the first hyper-scale facility of 28,900 m2 and 48 MW in 2023. Meanwhile, a separate farm for cryptocurrency mining was being built for TeraWulf, but it appears to be unrelated to the deal with Amazon.
