A serious error has been discovered in the logic of the Bcachefs file system in Linux kernel 6.7. This issue manifests in configurations with multiple storage devices when using new versions of file system creation tools. The problem arises when a situation occurs where the file system attempts to update its version, which may not complete successfully. Consequently, the kernel might try to revert the file system version to an earlier state, leading to severe corruption of the file system as a result of this interaction. <\/p>\n
Currently, all Bcachefs users with more than one device are recommended to upgrade to kernel 6.8 because the proposed fixes have not been accepted into the 6.7 branch due to non-compliance with the accompanying requirements (fixes for different issues were submitted in one pull request without separation into individual patches).
