Simultaneously, the Wine Staging 9.5 project release has been formed, providing enhanced Wine builds that include partially complete or risky patches, which are not yet suitable for inclusion in the main Wine branch. Compared to Wine, Wine Staging provides 435 additional patches. In the new Wine Staging release, synchronization with the Wine 9.5 codebase and vkd3d has been accomplished, the ws2_32-TransmitFile and ntdll-Threading patches have been removed, and patches for shell32 (resolving issues with SHFileOperation(FO_MOVE) and registry searching), wined3d (utilizing bindless textures for GLSL shaders), and user32 (adding a stub for LoadKeyboardLayoutEx) have been moved into the main Wine composition. <\/p>\n
Valve has published the 16th beta release of Proton 9.0, based on the Wine project codebase, aimed at enabling Linux gaming applications created for Windows and available in the Steam catalog. Proton allows Windows-only gaming applications to run directly in the Linux Steam client. The package includes implementations of DirectX 9\/10\/11 (based on DXVK) and DirectX 12 (based on vkd3d-proton), which work by translating DirectX calls to the Vulkan API, provides improved support for game controllers, and allows fullscreen mode regardless of the screen resolutions supported by the games.
