A corrective release of Firefox 125.0.2 is now available, which disables the file download blocking feature introduced in the Firefox 125 branch for URLs considered untrustworthy. In some cases, this functionality led to the downloading of different files instead of the requested ones (for example, with the 'dom.block_download_insecure' setting enabled, attempting to download a CSV file resulted in downloading an HTML page instead). The release notes also mention another unusual issue that is planned to be fixed in the next update, Firefox 125.0.3, scheduled for April 30. The essence of the problem is that after upgrading to Firefox 125, some users periodically experienced new tabs opening spontaneously with the URL 'https:\/\/0.0.0.1' in the address bar. This effect was observed only on the Windows platform. An investigation showed that the tabs appear when attempting to launch another copy of Firefox from the command line while Firefox is already running. Users encountering this issue, if they did not themselves launch new copies of Firefox, are advised to check their systems with antivirus software, as such activity may result from malicious software. <\/p>\n
The appearance of a tab with the address 'https:\/\/0.0.0.1' is caused by an error in the handler 'Application Launch Prefetcher'. In the Firefox 125 branch, when launching an additional process, the method nsWinRemoteClient::SendCommandLine is used with the addition of the '\/prefetch:1' option to the command line, which during parameter parsing is transformed into '-prefetch 1'.
