{"id":115298,"date":"2024-04-24T15:23:46","date_gmt":"2024-04-24T13:23:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/prohoster.info\/blog\/novosti-interneta\/xfce-pereezzhaet-s-irc-na-matrix"},"modified":"2024-04-24T15:23:46","modified_gmt":"2024-04-24T13:23:46","slug":"xfce-pereezzhaet-s-irc-na-matrix","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/prohoster.info\/en\/blog\/news\/xfce-pereezzhaet-s-irc-na-matrix","title":{"rendered":"Xfce is moving from IRC to Matrix.","gt_translate_keys":[{"key":"rendered","format":"text"}]},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a 6-month trial period, official communications for the Xfce project are moving from IRC to Matrix.<\/p>\n<p>The old IRC channels will remain open for now, but <em>the official ones<\/em> are now the channels on Matrix.<\/p>\n<p>This change affects the following channels:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>#xfce \u043d\u0430 libera.chat \u2192 #xfce:matrix.org<\/li>\n<li>#xfce-dev \u043d\u0430 libera.chat \u2192 #xfce-dev:matrix.org &ndash; development discussion<\/li>\n<li>#xfce-commits \u043d\u0430 libera.chat \u2192 #xfce-commits:matrix.org &ndash; notable GitLab activity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> <noindex><noindex><\/p>\n<p>Previously, many IRC participants actively used <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/alexxcons.github.io\/blogpost_10.html\">the bridge from Matrix.org<\/a>, using Matrix to connect to IRC, which among other conveniences allowed users to avoid a bouncer, synchronize chat history across different devices, lower the entry barrier (which, according to some, is lower for Matrix than for IRC), and avoid situations where a user asking for support was offline when a reply was given.<\/p>\n<p><\/noindex><\/noindex> <noindex><\/p>\n<p>In July 2023, <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/libera.chat\/news\/matrix-deportalling\">Libera.Chat decided to disable the Matrix bridge<\/a>.
