In the nightly builds of Firefox, on which the release of Firefox 127 will be based on June 11, a new mechanism for protecting user movement tracking has been added \u2014 \"Bounce Tracking Protection,\" which expands the capabilities for blocking visitor tracking using redirects to other pages. <\/p>\n

The essence of the tracking method is that the tracker code first redirects the user to its own site, and then from there redirects to the target page, allowing the tracker to save cookies and data in local storage tied to its site. Preserving data after transitioning to another site allows bypassing methods implemented in Enhanced Tracking Protection (ETP) to block cross-site operations \u2014 since the intermediary page opens outside the context of the other site, tracking cookies can be set freely on such a page. <\/p>\n

The Bounce Tracking Protection mechanism captures activity specific to tracking through redirects and periodically clears cookies and locally stored data used for tracking. Unlike the previously available \"Cookie Purging\" mode, the clearing is not based on a list of known trackers, but rather on heuristics that identify new tracker sites by analyzing behavior after a redirect.
