Little by little, a few days ago the 9.4 release of the Rocky Linux project was launched \u2014 a distribution organized by Gregory Kurtzer in response to the discontinuation of traditional CentOS releases and the transition to CentOS Stream. Being a developer for CentOS, Gregory Kurtzer decided to start anew and launched the Rocky Linux project, which aims to do everything that CentOS used to do, but now independently from Red Hat.<\/p>\n

As the project is intended to be RHEL-compatible on a one-to-one basis, bug-for-bug (while simultaneously debranding and removing any ties to Red Hat), everything that can be said about RHEL 9.4 or CentOS Stream 9 holds true here as well: available for four architectures (x86_64, aarch64, ppc64le, s390x), installation images as well as cloud platform options (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), Docker images, and, of course, Live options (available with GNOME, XFCE, MATE, Cinnamon, and KDE \u2014 the latter is shown in the screenshot). The base for Rocky is the OpenELA repository, since Red Hat no longer provides the source versions of its packages publicly. There are no mechanisms for smooth upgrading from version 8.x \u2014 those who wish to update from the previous version are recommended to install 9.4 from scratch.<\/p>\n
