The developers of the Hurd project have announced the ability to build 71% of Debian archive packages in the Debian GNU\/Hurd distribution. Last year, this figure was 58%. Among other achievements, GNU\/Hurd has seen the porting of the Mach kernel for the AArch64 architecture and the acceptance of patches that allow the use of GCC to build GNU\/Hurd programs for AArch64. Currently, the port does not yet provide all desired functionality but can already be used to run simple applications. Experimental support for symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) has been implemented in the GNU Mach kernel. Issues with building using GCC 14 have been resolved.
