The developers of the cryptographic library OpenSSL have announced a complete transformation of the project's structure and management methods. To support the project's mission, two equal divisions have been created \u2014 the nonprofit organization OpenSSL Foundation and the commercial company OpenSSL Corporation, focused on the interests of the nonprofit community and commercial enterprises. Both divisions operate completely independently and have separate decision-making processes. <\/p>\n

The mission of the project encompasses values such as the importance of community, commitment to an open-source development model, adherence to privacy, and open and transparent management methods. The previously active OpenSSL Management Committee (OMC) has been abolished, and decision-making has been entrusted to the collaborative efforts of boards of directors elected separately in the OpenSSL Foundation and OpenSSL Corporation. Both organizations have 10 voting members each.

Additionally, the OpenSSL Foundation and OpenSSL Corporation will have oversight committees \u2014 the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and the Business Advisory Committee (BAC), formed from representatives of the community and interested commercial companies, which can directly represent the community's interests in development plans. The BAC will be formed at the end of October 2024, while the TAC will be established at the end of April 2025.

The project is no longer limited to just the OpenSSL library and is open to other cryptography-related developments. The first two projects to join were the Bouncy Castle libraries (crypto-API for Java and C#) and cryptlib (a high-level API for simplifying the addition of encryption and authentication to programs), which will now be developed under the auspices of the OpenSSL Foundation and OpenSSL Corporation.
