After seven months of development, version 4.8.32 of the console file manager Midnight Commander has been released. Developed since 1994, it offers a dual-panel interface reminiscent of Norton Commander. Midnight Commander features include mouse support, a built-in file viewer, a text editor with syntax highlighting, the ability to navigate within archives, packages, and remote storages (SFTP, SSH) using virtual file systems, handlers for various file types, a quick switch to terminal mode for executing commands, the use of bookmarks for frequently used locations in the file system, and flexible search tools. The project's code is written in C and is distributed under the GPLv3+ license. <\/p>\n

Support has been added for the ESC sequence OSC 7 to transmit information about the current directory to the terminal emulator, enabling the current directory to be preserved when opening a new tab in GNOME Terminal.\n
Copying and moving operations now preserve ext2 file system attributes.\n
Temporary directory names have been changed to be unique for each execution.\n
Password masking is implemented in the progress dialog for file operations (e.g., during SFTP copying).\n
Support for the «reget» command has been added to resume interrupted data transfers when moving files via FTP.\n
Nanosecond precision time support has been implemented in systems other than Linux (macOS, BSD, AIX, Solaris).\n
To simplify maintenance, the code using mmap has been removed.\n
VFS support for navigating the contents of unrar-7 archives has been added.\n
The built-in text editor has improved syntax highlighting for C and C++ code.\n
