\"Ubuntu <\/p>\n

In Ubuntu 24.10, scheduled for release on October 10, 2024, a permissions request feature will be introduced, allowing users to control app access to system resources.<\/p>\n

It will enable users to monitor, manage, and better understand the behavior of applications running on their devices. This technology is based on the implementation of AppArmor in Ubuntu, which provides granular access control for applications without needing to modify their source code.<\/p>\n

Oliver Smith, acting Director of Ubuntu Desktop Development at Canonical, states: \"Permission requests, built on AppArmor, enhance application isolation and manage access at the system call level so that every action is under strict control and requires user consent, even if the application is unaware of this process.\"<\/p>\n

The key components of this innovation will be two pre-installed packages: a graphical interface called Security Center and a command line utility named prompting-client. These tools will leverage new features implemented in snapd 2.65 and AppArmor 4.0. Through the Security Center app, users will be able to manage request rules on their Ubuntu desktop, and future updates will add even more features, such as encryption management and firewall configuration.<\/p>\n

The permission request feature will be launched in experimental mode.<\/p>\n

To install the new feature, the following commands need to be executed:<\/p>\n
