Valve has released a new version of the Proton project 9.0-3, based on the Wine project codebase and aimed at allowing Linux to run Windows games available in the Steam catalog. Development of the project is licensed under BSD. <\/p>\n
Proton allows you to run gaming applications available only for Windows directly in the Steam Linux client. The package includes implementations of DirectX 9\/10\/11 (based on the DXVK package) and DirectX 12 (based on vkd3d-proton), which work by translating DirectX calls to the Vulkan API. It provides improved game controller support and the ability to use fullscreen mode regardless of the screen resolutions supported by the games. To enhance the performance of multi-threaded games, it supports the mechanisms of 'esync' (Eventfd Synchronization) and 'futex\/fsync'. <\/p>\n
Changes in the new version of Proton include: <\/p>\n

The DXVK layer, which translates calls to the Vulkan API, has been updated to branch 2.4. <\/li>\n
VKD3D-Proton, a branch of vkd3d created by Valve to improve Direct3D 12 support in Proton, has been updated to version 2.13. <\/li>\n
The Dxvk-nvapi package with the NVAPI library implementation over DXVK has been updated to version 0.7.1. <\/li>\n
The Wine Mono engine with .NET platform implementation has been updated to release 9.2.0.\n
Support for using D3D12 with OpenXR for virtual reality headset functionality has been added.\n
Thanks to Xalia, it is now possible to use game controllers to manage the Fallout 3 game launcher.\n
Memory consumption has been reduced during video playback in 32-bit games.\n
