Bun \u2013 is an ECMAScript \/ JavaScript runtime environment, similar in many respects to nodejs<\/a>. At its core, Bun uses JavaScriptCore<\/a> from Apple, but Bun itself, like many of its modules, is written in zig<\/a>. Bun aims to be highly compatible with nodejs in terms of command-line options, supports ECMAScript (ESM) and CommonJS modules. npm package management and support for typescript<\/a> are built directly into the application as native code, allowing TypeScript programs to be executed directly by the interpreter without prior configuration.<\/p>\n

However, Bun is not just a \"copy\" of Node.js in terms of capabilities. Besides being faster in several scenarios (starting right from application launch) and almost fully supporting the available Node.js API, Bun provides extensive features for server applications \u2013 from file handling to transforming the HTML tree (HTMLRewriter<\/a>), a TypeScript transpilation module (Bun.Transpiler<\/a>), built-in database work sqlite<\/a>, modules for interacting with native platform libraries via C language API \u2013 ffi<\/a>, integrated testing tools<\/a> , and many other features.<\/p>\n

Additionally, in experimental mode, Bun supports integration with C code through transparent calls to tcc<\/a>:<\/p>\n

In this release, among other things, a CSS parser based on LightningCSS<\/a> was specially rewritten from legacy technologies such as rust<\/a> to zig, which allowed seamless integration of CSS and TypeScript, now making it possible to directly import a CSS file into a TypeScript module:<\/p>\n
