The Gentoo project developers have announced the implementation of DTrace 2.0 support in the distribution for dynamic kernel and user-space application tracing, as well as for monitoring system behavior and diagnosing real-time issues with minimal impact on performance. A feature of the DTrace 2.0 branch is its operation using the eBPF subsystem and built-in kernel tracing mechanisms, which does not require loading a special module into the kernel. <\/p>\n

To use DTrace in Gentoo, it is now sufficient to install the package dev-debug\/dtrace, and all necessary settings are already included in the stock kernel offered in the distribution. When manually building the kernel, the ebuild will now provide hints about which options to enable for DTrace.
