The ratarmount program (random access tar mount) is designed for mounting archive files into the file system and allows mounting through FUSE not only tar files (compressed bz2, gz, xz, or zstd) but also zip and rar. The new release 1.0.0 is available for installation from pip and AppImage.<\/p>\n

There are several features that distinguish ratarmount from the existing archivemount. First and foremost, access to mounted files is actually fast, regardless of the archive size. For instance, for archives sized 100 GB, we're talking about milliseconds of delay with ratarmount compared to hours of delay with archivemount. Additionally, ratarmount has a parallelized bz2 and xz decoder, as well as offers advanced features such as creating an index file for quick subsequent access, combining mounts, binding mounts, and even arbitrary deep recursive mounting.<\/p>\n
