Nastene (also known as ii)  — is a distributed messaging system, a simplified version of Fido. The operation runs with two objects. The message object consists of the message. The echo object is a named list of messages. Stations, following a predetermined routing, download lists from other stations and then retrieve messages that they do not have. Points write messages on the station (via web interface or client). That's the entire exchange and the whole structure of the network.<\/p>\n

Nastene 0.7 is the station. It is written in Python 3 and operates on text files.<\/p>\n

About routing. Using list.txt and Python scripts, it's easy to ensure the 'everyone exchanges everything with everyone' mode. However, as practice shows, different stations have different echo lists. This was intentional. Usually, there is some archive station in the network that downloads all messages from all stations.<\/p>\n

There is a lite interface (supports, for example, win95\/ie4+), an echo has been created. retro.talks<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The original goal of the project  — to maintain small but friendly communities (when traffic is low, the echo format allows for greater engagement in discussions). Or a distributed mini-Twitter. The project is over 10 years old, but many messages from many years ago have survived from sites that no longer exist. What is written in ii cannot be erased. Thanks to this, echoes retro.talks have been recreated from two long-dead sites and echoes.<\/p>\n
