The release of Proxmox Virtual Environment 8.3 has been published, a specialized Linux distribution based on Debian GNU\/Linux, aimed at deploying and managing virtual servers using LXC and KVM, and capable of serving as an alternative to products like VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Citrix Hypervisor. The size of the installation ISO image is 1.4 GB. <\/p>\n
Proxmox VE provides tools for deploying a fully functional industrial-grade virtual server system, managed through a web interface designed for handling hundreds or even thousands of virtual machines. The distribution includes built-in tools for organizing backups of virtual environments and offers out-of-the-box clustering support, including the ability to migrate virtual environments from one node to another without downtime. Features of the web interface include: support for secure VNC console; role-based access management to all available objects (VM, storage, nodes, etc.); and support for various authentication mechanisms (MS ADS, LDAP, Linux PAM, Proxmox VE authentication). <\/p>\n

Synchronization with the Debian 12.8 package base has been completed. The Linux kernel has been updated to version 6.8.12 (a package with kernel 6.11 is available as an option). New releases of QEMU 9.0.2, LXC 6.0.0, and OpenZFS 2.2.6 have been implemented. Support for creating storage based on Ceph releases 18.2.4 'Reef', 17.2.7 'Quincy', and 19.2.0 'Squid' is now available.\n
A tighter integration of the stack for creating software-defined networks (SDN) with the firewall has been ensured. In SDN, IP sets generation for virtual networks (VNet) and guest systems, which can be used in firewall rules and configured through the built-in IP address management plugin, has been implemented. Optionally, the use of nftables for filtering redirected traffic has been provided.\n
The ability to send HTTP requests for transmitting events from the notification system, such as information about system updates and issues with cluster nodes, has been added. The web request format for transmitting event metadata can be user-configured.\n
A new 'Tag View' mode has been added to the resource tree for quickly viewing available guest systems in the cluster, grouped by their associated tags.\n
New change detection modes have been introduced, allowing backup operations to be expedited. Data and metadata for backup snapshots are now separated into different archives, enabling the quick identification of files that have changed since the previous snapshot based on the metadata archive and excluding unchanged files during the backup process.\n
Features for importing guest systems from files in OVF (Open Virtualization Format) and OVA (Open Virtualization Appliances) formats have been added to the user interface. OVA files can be uploaded from an external host via URL or imported from local storage. <\/ul>\n
