The far2l-wx package, featuring a graphical version of the FAR 2 file manager for Linux using wxGTK, has been added to the Debian testing repository. The far2l-wx package is expected to appear in Ubuntu version 25.04. <\/p>\n
Standard Unix terminals do not always provide the functionality required for Windows console applications (such as clipboard access, support for complex key combinations like RightCtrl+numbers, notification output, etc.), or they provide it only partially. The graphical version of far2l (the far2l-wx package), which historically appeared even before the console version, addresses this issue. The far2l itself remains a text-based application, but the window rendering and input are handled by the wxWidgets toolkit. This allows for the implementation of any features found in the Windows console within the text interface. <\/p>\n
Moreover, far2l itself includes a built-in terminal, so with the introduction of the far2l-wx package, there is no need to install additional terminals that are advanced enough for its proper functioning \u2014 on the contrary, far2l itself can serve as a sufficiently advanced terminal (supporting all the features necessary for console-based Far).
