A stable version of the GNU Coreutils 9.6 basic system utilities suite has been released, which includes programs such as sort, cat, chmod, chown, chroot, cp, date, dd, echo, hostname, id, ln, ls, etc. <\/p>\n

The cksum utility has added the option «-a crc32b» for calculating checksums according to the ITU V.42 specification, used, for example, in gzip. Performance optimizations have been implemented using the pclmul instruction. SIMD extensions AVX2, AVX512, and ARMv8 have been employed to speed up the «cksum -a crc» command, reducing computation time by 40%, 60%, and 80%, respectively.\n
The ls utility has added the option «—sort=name» for explicitly setting the sorting by file name.\n
The printf function has added support for indexed arguments presented in the POSIX:2024 standard in the format «%<i>$», where ‘<i>’ is the integer number of the argument.\n
The test utility has added the ability to use the » operators with strings (POSIX:2024).\n
The timeout utility has added the newly introduced options «-f» and «-p» in the POSIX:2024 standard, which are short variants of the «—foreground» and «—preserve-status» options.\n
The sort utility has accelerated file operations on pseudo-FS, such as \/proc.\n
The stat and tail utilities have added support for the filesystem types «bcachefs» and «pidfs». To display the filesystem type, the command «stat -f -c%T» has been added. The «tail -f» command utilizes the inotify mechanism for the «bcachefs» and «pidfs» filesystems.\n
In the wc utility, the minimum size of the block read at once has been increased from 16KiB to 256KiB. When reading cached files, the performance of «wc -l» has been improved by approximately 10%. <\/ul>\n
