Mozilla has announced that in addition to the open MPL license, Firefox will now be governed by Terms of Use, which outline the requirements that users must agree to in order to work with the product provided under the Firefox brand. It is noted that previously, Mozilla relied only on the MPL license and public commitments, but due to changes in the technological landscape, it decided to formally establish these requirements and obligations. Starting in March, a confirmation of the Terms of Use will be prompted for new users, and later for existing users as well. <\/p>\n
The document serves as an agreement between the user and Mozilla, under which the latter grants the user a license to install and use the completed builds of Firefox (the executable code). In exchange for the right to use Firefox, the user agrees to grant Mozilla all rights necessary for the operation of the browser, including the right to process user data in accordance with the privacy notice, as well as the right to perform actions on behalf of the user to assist in navigating the web. <\/p>\n
It is stated that by downloading or entering any information in Firefox, the user grants Mozilla a non-exclusive, royalty-free license, valid in all countries, to use this information to improve navigation, user convenience, and interaction with online content. <\/p>\n
In addition to introducing the Terms of Use, Mozilla has revised its Privacy Notice. The new version details all the data collected and the conditions under which it is used. The browser includes settings that allow users to opt out of data sharing. <\/p>\n
The privacy notification has been updated to specify that Firefox may share information with its marketing partners, with user consent, to evaluate and enhance the effectiveness of advertising campaigns related to promoting Firefox (for example, data on how the user arrived at the Firefox download page, as well as how actively they use Firefox). In the previous version, the ability to share data with partners such as Adjust and Google was stated in general terms for any marketing campaigns, but with a note on anonymizing the information. <\/p>\n
The new version of the privacy notification states that for displaying advertisements on the new tab page, analyzing Firefox usage, and improving search, the processing of data such as unique identifiers, browser interaction details, settings, location information, and technical data is permitted. <\/p>\n
For promoting Mozilla's products and services, for processing sponsored content in Review Checker, for maintaining\/developing functionalities, and for enhancing security, processing browsing data is allowed.
