Red Hat has released a stable version of Cygwin 3.6.0, which includes a DLL library to emulate the basic Linux API on Windows, allowing programs created for Linux to be compiled and run in Windows with minimal changes. The package also includes utilities, server applications, compilers, libraries, and header files typically found in Unix-like systems, optimized for execution on Windows. Cygwin provides functionality similar to a Linux distribution running on top of Windows. The code is written in C and distributed under GPLv2, LGPLv2.1, and GPLv3 licenses. <\/p>\n

New features have been implemented: getlocalename_l, fdclosedir, posix_getdents, setproctitle, timespec_get, tcgetwinsize, tcsetwinsize, and posix_close, posix_spawn_file_actions_addchdir.\n
Support for the FS_PINNED_FL and FS_UNPINNED_FL flags has been added to support Windows attributes FILE_ATTRIBUTE_PINNED and FILE_ATTRIBUTE_UNPINNED.\n
The libaio.a library has been added to verify POSIX aio support.\n
The cygpath utility has been updated with the option «-r» for generating Windows paths with the prefix «\\?\».\n
The SMBv1 protocol has been deprecated and will no longer be installed by default in new versions of Windows.\n
The handling of unnamed pipes has been reworked.\n
AVX\/AVX2\/AVX-512 instructions have been utilized in the signal handler.\n
