The release of the specialized distribution Tails 6.14.1 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System) has been announced, developed as part of the Tor project. The distribution is based on Debian 12, comes with the GNOME 43 desktop, and is designed for anonymous internet access using the Tor tools. All connections except for traffic through the Tor network are blocked by the packet filter by default. User data is stored using encryption in persistent mode between sessions. An ISO image capable of running in Live mode, sized at 1 GB, is available for download. <\/p>\n
Release 6.14.1 was created instead of 6.14 because a serious issue was identified during the initial testing of the new branch prior to releasing the builds, prompting the release to be reissued. In Tails 6.14, the Tor Browser has been updated to version 14.0.9, and the Tor package has been upgraded to 0.4.8.16. The AppArmor profile used to protect against vulnerabilities in the Tor Browser has been redesigned. Previously, the browser was granted read access only to specific directories and write access only to the directory for saving downloaded files. In the new version, these restrictions have been removed from the AppArmor profile for the Tor Browser. Instead, the xdg-desktop-portal package, used in Flatpak for controlled selective access to files outside the isolated environment, has been utilized.
