The Guix project, which develops the eponymous package manager and the GNU\/Linux distribution based on it, announced the migration of its Git repositories from GNU Savannah to the Git hosting platform Codeberg, which uses the Forgejo collaborative development platform (a fork of Gitea). The patch review systems and bug tracking systems, which were previously based on email submissions, will also be moved to Codeberg. <\/p>\n

All project git repositories will be transitioned to use Codeberg by June 7th. The main Guix repository will be moved on May 25th, after which the old repository git.savannah.gnu.org\/git\/guix.git will remain accessible in a mirrored form for one year. Guix users will need to update the configuration files channels.scm, replacing mentions of «git.savannah.gnu.org» with «https:\/\/codeberg.org\/guix\/guix.git», and a corresponding prompt will be displayed when executing the «guix pull» command. <\/p>\n

After the migration is complete, it will be possible to submit bug reports through the Codeberg Issues web interface and use pull requests for patch submissions. Support for the old email-based method of receiving bug reports and patches will be maintained until December 31, 2025. The reason for the migration is cited as the desire to simplify participation in the project and eliminate the issues associated with the outdated infrastructure, which is overly complex, requires a high entry threshold, lacks visibility, is unreliable, labor-intensive, and complicates the automation of quality control checks.
