The author of the jemalloc memory management library announced the cessation of the project's development and has archived the GitHub repository to read-only mode. The jemalloc library offered an alternative implementation of malloc functions, optimized to reduce fragmentation and work on multiprocessor systems. In 2005, the library was integrated into FreeBSD, and in 2007 it was used in Firefox. <\/p>\n

In 2009, the author of jemalloc joined Facebook, where this library was used in internal projects. In 2017, the author left Facebook, and development was continued by the remaining team at Facebook. After its rebranding to Meta, the company's priorities shifted, development of the library stalled, and focus shifted solely to internal needs. Over time, the public codebase has degraded, and significant refactoring is now required to address the accumulated technical debt. The author of jemalloc is not willing to spend time on such refactoring and has therefore decided to discontinue development.
