The release of the mmc-utils utility set 1.0 has been published, intended for low-level configuration of MMC, eMMC, and SD memory cards from user space. This release marks the first official version (the project has been in development since 2012). The code is written in C and is distributed under the GPLv2 license. <\/p>\n

The utilities can be used to read CSD registers (card parameters), CID (card identifier), and SCR (card configuration), to set write protection (temporary or permanent, affecting only specific regions of the device), to configure authentication, and to set specific eMMC features such as sector size, BKOPS, cache management, and hardware reset. <\/p>\n

To use mmc-utils, a system with a \"real\" mmchci host is required. Devices like USB card readers that provide access to storage cards in the form of \"USB mass storage\" are not suitable for these utilities, as they do not allow sending MMC commands to the device.
