The developers of the AlmaLinux distribution have introduced a new version of the ELevate tool, simplifying migration between major releases of distributions based on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux package base while preserving applications, data, and settings. The project supports migration between major branches of AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, and CentOS Stream. <\/p>\n

The migration uses the Leapp utility developed by Red Hat, which has been supplemented with patches that take into account the specifics of CentOS and third-party distributions built on the RHEL package base. The project also employs an extensive set of metadata describing the steps for transferring individual packages from one branch of the distribution to another. <\/p>\n

To migrate, it is sufficient to connect the repository provided by the project, install the migration script package for the chosen distribution (leapp-data-almalinux, leapp-data-centos, leapp-data-oraclelinux, leapp-data-rocky), and run the utility \"leapp\". For example, to transition from AlmaLinux 9 to AlmaLinux 10, you can execute the following commands after updating your system to its current state: <\/p>\n

The new version includes upgrade scripts from AlmaLinux 9 to AlmaLinux 10.0, from AlmaLinux 9 to AlmaLinux Kitten 10, as well as from CentOS Stream 9 to CentOS Stream 10. During the upgrade, support for third-party repositories EPEL, Docker CE, and PostgreSQL is ensured.
