The fourth release of the Orbitiny Desktop environment, built from scratch using the Qt framework, has been published. The project aims to combine some innovative ideas previously unseen in desktop environments with traditional elements like panels, menus, and icon placement on the desktop. The code is written in C++ and is distributed under the GPL license. <\/p>\n
In this new version, most changes are related to expanding the functionality of the Qutiny file manager and tools for working with files on the desktop. Support has been added for device display (e.g., \/dev\/sdc1) in the notes for mount points, with separate icons for mount points, a list of mounted external drives in the sidebar, and a button on the toolbar for showing mount points. The delete confirmation dialog now shows the full path to the file being deleted. A tab with hashes and a field with file owner data have been added to the file properties dialog. The file renaming dialog has been redesigned.

Features of Orbitiny Desktop: <\/p>\n

A panel that supports functionality extension via plugins, drag-and-drop manipulation (for example, you can transfer files from the desktop to the panel, rearranging applets), and saving different profiles with their own set of applets and settings. It provides 18 plugins, such as an applet implementing a start menu for navigating installed applications.

Support for screen gestures, initiated by tracing a specific shape on an empty area of the desktop while holding the mouse button. Up to 12 screen gestures can be defined for each mouse button. For instance, a gesture can be linked to launch a required program. <\/li>\n
A dedicated set of utilities and applications, including a file manager, notification output system, file search interface, and screenshot creation tool. The desktop can be launched in any existing user environments, including KDE and GNOME \u2014 in this case, Orbitiny displays its own window at full screen, overlaying the current desktop. <\/li>\n
The ability to use any directory for desktop content placement (not bound to $HOME\/Desktop). Different desktops are displayed on each screen. <\/li>\n
Support for defining personal context menus that do not block other applications. An integrated interface in the context menu for navigating directory content (Directory Browser). A button in the context menu to run arbitrary commands on selected files.

Display of special tags on file icons copied or moved to the clipboard. The tag also appears when the content of the directory changes. <\/li>\n
The ability to merge files by dragging one file onto another with the mouse. <\/li>\n
Support for pasting from the clipboard to the beginning or end of an existing file. If the paste operation is performed in a directory, the file is created automatically. It is possible to paste from the clipboard into multiple selected directories at once. <\/li>\n
A feature to open a terminal emulator for the selected directory (if multiple directories are highlighted, multiple terminals can be opened at once). <\/li>\n
Support for defining actions that can be applied to selected files. <\/li>\n

Built-in support for Wine and DOSBOX \u2014 you can click on an exe file, and it will run in Wine. <\/li>\n
Support for MAFF (Mozilla Archive Format) files for packaging web page content into a single archive. <\/li>\n
The ability to bind multiple commands to a single shortcut (for example, one command for a left mouse click and another for the middle one). <\/li>\n
The ability to change the scale of icons on the desktop through the context menu or by using Ctrl+mouse wheel. <\/li>\n
The ability to bind actions triggered by double-clicking on assigned empty areas of the desktop. <\/li>\n
A device manager that allows enabling and disabling available hardware devices at the kernel module load and unload level. <\/li>\n
