Linus Torvalds changed the support status of bcachefs in the Linux kernel to 'externally maintained.' The note accompanying the change states that the decision was made after lengthy discussions, both public and private. Effectively, the new status implies a halt to the acceptance of changes for bcachefs, while keeping this filesystem in a frozen state within the main kernel tree. Until Kent Overstreet can demonstrably prove the ability to interact properly with other kernel developers and adhere to established development guidelines, further development of bcachefs will be conducted outside the kernel codebase.
