The first beta release of the Term.Everything utility has been published, allowing any graphical applications to be displayed within a terminal emulator window. Among other features, the program enables the launch of graphical applications in the terminal when accessing a remote system via SSH. The project code is distributed under the AGPL 3.0 license, written in TypeScript, and runs using the Bun platform. The final builds are packaged in AppImage format. <\/p>\n

Technically, Term.Everything is a composite server based on the Wayland protocol, which organizes output not to the screen, but into a terminal window. To convert images into suitable Unicode characters with ANSI escape sequences simulating graphics in the terminal, the chafa library is used. Key presses and mouse movement events in the terminal are translated into Wayland input events. <\/p>\n

On terminals that support an extension for raster graphics output, such as kitty, Ghostty, Konsole, wezterm, and iTerm2, the output is almost indistinguishable from opening in a regular window.
