The legal entity name Apache Software Foundation has not changed and is still used where required by law, such as in official documents, in the website footer, and when mentioning copyright. In other cases, including documentation and references, the acronym ASF will now be used for visual identity. Foundation projects that contain the word Apache in their names (e.g., Apache HTTP Server) will continue to use their existing names. <\/p>\n

The reason for discontinuing the previous symbolism was the dissatisfaction of the organization Natives in Tech, which advocates for the interests of indigenous peoples. This organization considers the use of Native American symbols in the Apache Software Foundation logo unacceptable and views it as a manipulation of the cultural values of national minorities, distorting the representation of Native Americans and based on stereotypes. In addition to changing the logo, Native rights advocates also demanded that the organization be renamed and that the word Apache be discontinued, but the community refused to rename the organization due to high costs and legal complexities.
