After a year of development, the stable branch of the open communication platform Asterisk 23 has been released, which is used for deploying software PBXs, voice communication systems, VoIP gateways, organizing IVR systems (voice menus), voicemail, conference calls, and call centers. The source code of the project is written in C and is available under the GPLv2 license. <\/p>\n
Asterisk 23 is classified as a release with regular support, with updates provided for two years. Support for the LTS branch Asterisk 20 will continue until October 2027, while Asterisk 22 will be supported until October 2029. Support for the LTS branch 18.x will end on October 20. When preparing LTS releases, the main focus is on ensuring stability and optimizing performance, while the priority for regular releases is to enhance functionality. <\/p>\n
Among the changes in Asterisk 23: <\/p>\n

An option 'log_unpause_on_reason_change' has been added, which, when enabled, logs information about UNPAUSE events when a call is in a paused state but the reason for the pause has changed.\n
In the WaitExten dialplan application, the capability to use a custom tone during the waiting for digit input has been implemented.\n
In the dialplan function TONE_DETECT, an option 'e' has been added to prevent race conditions by automatically disabling tone detection after a specified number of signal detector activations.\n
In the sorcery module, a setting 'update_or_create_on_update_miss' has been added to ensure the recreation of objects lost after a backend failure.\n
In the chan_websocket module for the Dial application, an option 'v' has been introduced to allow additional parameters to be added to the URI of an outbound WebSocket connection.\n
The dialplan applications ChanSpy and ExtenSpy now include an option 'N' to disable automatic call answering.\n
In ARI (Asterisk REST Interface), a handler '\/channels\/{channelId}\/progress' has been added to send information about the start of connection ('Session Progress') before answering the call.\n
Support for the users.conf configuration file has been discontinued; instead, all channel driver configurations must be defined in their specific separate configuration files.\n
The deprecated DeadAGI dialplan application has been removed. <\/ul>\n
