The Fedora Project's governing board has approved rules regulating the use of AI tools in developing Fedora Linux. AI tools are seen as a potential opportunity to enhance the platform, but there are concerns regarding privacy, security, ethics, and quality. It has been decided not to prohibit the use of AI assistants, provided there is mandatory human oversight of the results and the developer remains responsible for the code. <\/p>\n
Core principles for using AI tools when preparing changes for Fedora: <\/p>\n

A developer who uses AI tools when preparing changes for Fedora is regarded as the author, is accountable for the change submitted, and ensures its quality, compliance with licenses, and usefulness. Whether a change is prepared by a human or AI, it must fully meet the project's requirements for accepted changes.\n
When submitting changes, a significant portion of which is generated by AI tools, it is mandatory to add the tag \u00abAssisted-by: name of the AI assistant\u00bb in the commit message or pull request. For example, \u00abAssisted-by: ChatGPTv5\u00bb. In cases of minor borrowings or manual refinement of code suggested by AI assistants, adding the label is recommended but not required. There is no need for labeling the use of AI for performing routine tasks such as correcting grammar mistakes and formatting text.\n
When reviewing changes, AI tools can be used in the analysis process or to assist in forming feedback. However, using AI for complete automation of the review process or making judgments about the proposed change is prohibited. The final decision must be made by a human who is responsible for the authorized approval or rejection of the change.\n
In project management, AI tools can be used to automate routine tasks such as spam filtering, automated testing, and note-taking, but their use is not permissible for determining the status of community members, such as when assessing complaints regarding code of conduct violations, handling funding requests, and selecting candidates for leadership positions.\n
