The organization was established in Germany to stimulate the development of open digital infrastructure and open-source ecosystems. The fund is created with resources provided by the German Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection, and it is supervised by the Federal Agency for Breakthrough Innovations (SPRIND). It is noted that investment in open source software fosters innovation in Germany and Europe, as well as enhances competitiveness, productivity, and the ability to promote innovation in small and medium enterprises.     <\/p>\n<p>Projects receiving funding in 2025:  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> Servo \u2014 545 thousand euros for 2025 and 2026.\n<li class=\"l\"> chatmail \u2014 497 thousand euros for 2025, 2026, and 2027.\n<li class=\"l\"> OpenSSL \u2014 405 thousand euros for 2025 and 2026.\n<li class=\"l\"> Let\u2019s Encrypt \u2014 402 thousand euros for 2025 and 2026.\n<li class=\"l\"> systemd \u2014 399 thousand euros for 2025 and 2026.\n<li class=\"l\"> R Project \u2014 392 thousand euros for 2025, 2026, and 2027.\n<li class=\"l\"> Scala \u2014 377 thousand euros for 2025, 2026, and 2027.\n<li class=\"l\"> Apache Arrow \u2014 297 thousand euros for 2025, 2026, and 2027.\n<li class=\"l\"> conda \u2014 247 thousand euros for 2025, 2026, and 2027.\n<li class=\"l\"> PHP \u2014 223 thousand euros for 2025 and 2026.\n<li class=\"l\"> Open Web Docs \u2014 220 thousand euros for 2025 and 2026.\n<li class=\"l\"> Drupal \u2014 201 thousand euros for 2025 and 2026.\n<li class=\"l\"> Fedify \u2014 192 thousand euros for 2025 and 2026.\n<li class=\"l\"> OpenPrinting \u2014 190 thousand euros for 2025 and 2026.\n<li class=\"l\"> SDCC (Small Device C Compiler) \u2014 98 thousand euros for 2025 and 2026.\n<li class=\"l\"> phpseclib \u2014 50 thousand euros for 2025 and 2026.      <\/ul>\n<p>Since 2022, the STF has funded a total of 87 open projects, including FreeBSD, GNOME, Samba, Rust, Pipewire, Eclipse, OpenStreetMap, Arch Linux, and FFmpeg.
