The Firefox codebase, from which Firefox 147 will be released on January 13, has been updated to default to using the directory \"~\/.config\/mozilla\" for storing profiles, add-ons, settings, and internal databases on UNIX-like systems (the cache had already been moved to \"~\/.cache\/mozilla\"). This change was made to align the browser with the Freedesktop.org XDG Base Directory specification (the request for this change has been under discussion since 2004). The option to store data in the old directory \"~\/.mozilla\" remains available, enabled by starting with the environment variable \"MOZ_LEGACY_HOME=1\".
