The first release of the Gitmal project has been published, which allows for the generation of static sites for navigating Git repositories. The contents of the repository are transformed into a visual web representation in the style of GitHub (example), consisting solely of static HTML pages and requiring no script execution on the server. This approach enables the creation of sites for viewing the contents of Git repositories that require minimal server resources. The project's code is written in Go and is distributed under the MIT license. <\/p>\n

Gitmal supports themes, syntax highlighting for code display, and rendering of markdown formatting. In addition to navigating the repository structure and displaying the contents of code files, views for branches, tags, and commits are also available. It is possible to maintain the web view up to date through incremental updates, whereby missing pages are generated with each change in the repository. To reduce the size of the generated content, minification and compression can be applied (flags \u2014minify \u2014gzip). The generation of web pages for repositories with Zig, ZX, and my-badges toolkits takes 25 minutes on a MacBook Air M2 and results in saving about 2 GB of files.
