The release of the Monado project version 25.1.0 has been presented, which develops an open implementation of the OpenXR standard. The OpenXR standard is prepared by the Khronos consortium and defines a universal API for creating virtual and augmented reality applications, along with a set of layers for interacting with hardware. Monado provides a runtime that fully meets OpenXR requirements, which can be used for organizing virtual and augmented reality experiences on smartphones, tablets, PCs, and any other devices. The project code is written in C and is distributed under the Boost Software License 1.0, compatible with GPL. <\/p>\n

Spatial vision engine that performs tasks such as object tracking, surface detection, mesh reconstruction, gesture recognition, and eye-tracking. <\/li>\n
Character tracking engine offering components for predicting movements, optical motion tracking via a camera, data-based positional tracking from VR headsets, gyrostabilizers, and controllers. <\/li>\n
Composite server supporting compositing, direct output mode, video passthrough, lens adjustment, and workspace formation for simultaneous work with multiple applications. <\/li>\n
Interaction engine providing a set of widgets and toolkit for virtual reality applications, including tools for simulating physical processes. <\/li>\n
Composite server supporting direct output to devices. Shaders are provided for Vive and Panotools. Support for projection layers is included. <\/li>\n
Toolkit for calibrating hardware and defining movement boundaries.\n
Drivers for virtual reality headsets HDK (OSVR Hacker Developer Kit), PlayStation VR HMD, SteamVR, Panotools (PSVR), various Vive models, and devices for which OpenHMD drivers are available. <\/li>\n

Among the changes in the new release: <\/p>\n

Improved hand tracking. Support for the OpenXR extension XR_EXT_hand_tracking_data_source has been added, allowing separate processing of hand tracking modes: 'unobstructed' (hand free) and 'conforming' (an object, such as a controller, is in hand). Enhanced control quality when using controllers and simultaneously utilizing both controllers and hand tracking. The drivers have implemented support for new roles and resolved issues related to hand orientation and position recognition.\n
The xrt_future system has been introduced, along with support for the OpenXR extension XR_EXT_future, providing capabilities for asynchronous operations (future versions of the OpenXR standard will support operations that can be initiated without waiting for previous ones to complete).\n
Drivers for the Subur S1 and Rift DK2 3D headsets have been added. Enhanced support for the Razer Hydra, Vive Pro 2, Xreal Air 2 Ultra, and Fujitsu 3D headsets.\n
The SolarXR IPC driver has been added to extract tracking data from server<\/a> SlimeVR.\n
