A new clause has been added to the development rules for GNOME Shell extensions, prohibiting the publication of extensions generated with AI tools. The project will no longer accept extensions that show signs of AI-generated code, such as nonsensical code insertions, inconsistencies in style, forced API usage, and comments suggesting AI assistance. <\/p>\n

The reason for the new requirements is the recent increase in cases over the past two months of extensions being published with unprocessed junk code, which takes a lot of time for reviewers to analyze. In some cases, attempts to clarify certain questions during the review process led to responses from authors that were also generated by AI. <\/p>\n
