The release of the D7VK 1.1 project has been published, which enhances the implementation of the Direct3D 6 and 7 graphic APIs proposed by Microsoft in 1998 and 1999. D7VK works by translating calls into the Vulkan API and allows running retro games tied to Direct3D 6 and 7 on Linux using Wine. The project's code is written in C++ and is distributed under the Zlib license. The development is based on the d3d9 backend code from the DXVK project\u2014D7VK converts Direct3D 6 and 7 API calls into Direct3D 9 calls, which are then translated into the Vulkan API. The developer does not intend to incorporate D7VK into DXVK, as was done with the Direct3D 8 and Direct3D 9 implementations on top of Vulkan. <\/p>\n

Version 1.1 is noteworthy for adding experimental support for Direct3D 6 in addition to the previously developed support for Direct3D 7. There are no plans to add support for earlier APIs, as D3D6 and D3D7 are close enough to D3D9, while the rendering mechanism in D3D5 is significantly different from D3D9 and is problematic to translate into this API. <\/p>\n
