The release of the distributed source code management system Git 2.53 has been introduced. Git is characterized by high performance and provides tools for nonlinear development based on branching and merging. To ensure the integrity of history and resistance to 'backdating' changes, implicit hashing of the entire previous history in each commit is used, along with the certification of developers' digital signatures for individual tags and commits. The Git code is distributed under the GPLv2+ license. <\/p>\n
Compared to the previous release, the new version includes 466 changes developed with the participation of 70 developers (21 of whom contributed to Git for the first time). Key innovations: <\/p>\n

The ability to apply the 'geometric' repository packing strategy ('git repack --geometric') to partially cloned external repositories operating in 'promisor' mode (missing objects are loaded as needed) has been added. During repacking with the '--geometric' option, pack files with the '.promisor' extension are processed and packed separately. The 'geometric' strategy reduces maintenance time for large monorepositories by selectively repacking objects and eliminating excessive resource-intensive operations, such as merging all pack files (maintaining a geometric progression in the size of pack files, where each subsequent pack file must be at least twice the size of the previous one).\n
The 'git fast-import' command now includes the option '--signed-commits=strip-if-invalid' to remove digital signatures from imported objects that have become invalid after rewriting part of the repository's history. Previously, it was only possible to either import or remove all signatures, without distinguishing between valid and invalid ones. The 'strip-if-invalid' option enables tools to preserve valid signatures and re-sign objects with irrelevant signatures.\n
The output of the command «git repo structure» now includes information about the size of all reachable objects in the repository, categorized by type. The «git maintenance» command now includes the «is-needed» subcommand to perform repository maintenance operations only when necessary.\n
In the experimental «git replay» command, link updates are implemented by default in transactions, rather than showing where the links should point without updating.\n
The «git blame» command has added the ability to choose a difference evaluation algorithm using the «—diff-algorithm=<algo>» option.\n
The «git repo info» command has added the «—all» option.\n
Symbolic link support has been ported from Git-for-Windows for the Windows platform. <\/ul>\n
A warning was added in the previous release regarding the default inclusion of component builds in Rust in Git 2.53. However, in Git version 2.53, only separate improvements in Rust support (the ability to build without GNU sed) were added, but building with Rust using the Makefile remains disabled by default (requiring the flag WITH_RUST), while using Meson it is automatically activated if the rustc compiler is available.
