JetBrains has announced the decision to include support for the Wayland protocol by default in integrated development environments based on the upcoming IntelliJ release 2026.1. Prior to the release, Wayland support can be tested using the EAP builds of IntelliJ IDEA (Early Access Program). IDEs based on IntelliJ can now run directly in desktop environments using Wayland without the need for XWayland. The XToolkit backend for X11 will still be available as an option. <\/p>\n
