The release of the mobile platform LineageOS 23.2 continues the development of the codebase based on Android 16. The LineageOS 23.2 branch has achieved parity in functionality and stability with branch 23.0 and is considered ready for release. Builds have been prepared for 148 device models. LineageOS can also be run in the Android Emulator, in QEMU, and in Android Studio. Additionally, there's support for building in Android TV and Android Automotive modes. <\/p>\n

The release of LineageOS 23.2 is notable for its synchronization with the current codebase from the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) repository, corresponding to the second quarterly update of the Android 16 platform (QPR2). The release of LineageOS 23.1 has been skipped as AOSP is now updated biannually instead of quarterly. In the future, intermediate releases of LineageOS will occur twice a year instead of four times. <\/p>\n

Functional changes in LineageOS 23.2 include the adoption of a new design and color scheme aligned with the proposed Material Expressive 3 design concept in Android 16. Applications have been updated and, where possible, also adapted to the Material Expressive design concept. Among others, the new design is implemented in the Twelve Music Player, Deskclock, and ExactCalculator. <\/p>\n

The interface of the quick settings dropdown panel has been updated \u2014 the tiles in the panel are now fully customizable. In addition to the basic theme, an optional extended dark theme has been offered. The functionality of the file management utilities has been expanded. For firmware developers, several new utilities have been introduced for extracting RRO (Runtime Resource Overlay), updating application certificates, extracting SELinux rules, and configuration files from system images. <\/p>\n

A significant overhaul of the firmware update management application (Updater) has been noted, featuring a completely redesigned interface, improved update management, and added progress animation for operations. The revamped Updater is not yet ready to be included in LineageOS 23.2 but will be offered once it reaches an adequate level of stability.
