The release of the free PaaS platform Cozystack 1.0, built on Kubernetes, is now available. The project aims to provide a ready-to-use platform for hosting providers and a framework for creating private and public clouds. The platform installs directly on servers and encompasses all aspects of infrastructure preparation for offering managed services. Cozystack enables the deployment and provision of Kubernetes clusters, databases, and virtual machines<\/a>. The platform's code is available on GitHub and is distributed under the Apache-2.0 license. <\/p>\n

The platform includes a free implementation of the network infrastructure (fabric) based on Kube-OVN and utilizes Cilium for organizing the service network, with MetalLB for announcing services externally. Storage is implemented on LINSTOR, offering the use of ZFS as the base layer for storage and DRBD for replication. There is a pre-configured monitoring stack based on VictoriaMetrics and Grafana. The dependency on the Talos Linux distribution has been removed \u2014 Cozystack can now be installed on top of any Linux distribution. <\/p>\n

The Generic Kubernetes mode, which is not tied to Talos Linux, can be utilized when a company has strict requirements for selected Linux distributions, does not want to delve into the specifics of working with Talos Linux, needs to use drivers, kernel modules, or system packages not available in Talos, or requires Cozystack to be deployed in existing Kubernetes clusters. An installation guide for Cozystack with Ubuntu (Debian) and k3s (kubeadm, RKE2) has been prepared. <\/p>\n

The new version also features significantly altered architecture (deployment based on HelmRelease has been replaced with a declarative model of packages managed via cozystack-operator), a complete set of tools for backup and recovery has been provided, the architecture for managing virtual machines has been revamped (the virtual-machine application has been replaced with the vm-disk + vm-instance pair), support for creating geographically distributed clusters has been added (Kilo and cilium-kilo are used), and now managed service deployment is supported with MongoDB, Qdrant, Harbor, NATS, and MariaDB.
