Microsoft has announced significant changes to the update distribution system of its operating system. Head of the Windows division, Pavan Davuluri, promised that in the future, users will be able to pause the installation of patches 'for as long as necessary'. Additionally, computer owners will have the option to restart or shut down their devices without being forced to install updates.<\/p>\n

In 2015, the company essentially stripped users of control over this process, which led to unexpected reboots and data loss. Subsequently, Microsoft used the update mechanism to push its own applications and the Edge browser. Furthermore, Windows 11 users have increasingly complained about installation errors after applying patches and the appearance of Copilot<\/a> in the interface.<\/p>\n

Davuluri stated that the team spent months studying user feedback and 'listened' to people's opinions. Now, even if the user does not take advantage of the update pause feature, mandatory reboots will be required no more than once a month. At the same time, Microsoft will retain the option for faster updates for those who wish.<\/p>\n

As part of the improvements, the company promised to enhance the performance, responsiveness, and stability of the system. It plans to reduce memory consumption, speed up the launch of 'File Explorer' and other applications, decrease crashes, improve driver performance, and make the device wake-from-sleep process more reliable.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Microsoft will simplify the initial device setup: users will be able to skip updates during installation to access the desktop faster. The number of steps and reboots during setup will be reduced, and a gamepad can be used to create a PIN code. Davuluri also confirmed the intention to remove 'unnecessary' Copilot buttons from applications. However, the company has not yet abandoned the practice of pushing the Microsoft Edge browser.<\/p>\n
