Microsoft has implemented a change in the initial setup process of Windows 11 that allows users to skip the update installation stage when setting up a new computer. Previously, during the initial setup of a new PC with Windows 11, users had to spend a significant amount of time installing updates, which could take up to 30 minutes depending on the number of updates.<\/p>\n

Due to the forced installation of updates, the entire process of setting up a new computer with Windows 11 could take almost 40 minutes, which is much longer than the streamlined and efficient setups on competing platforms such as macOS, Chrome OS, and Linux distributions.<\/p>\n

Microsoft has confirmed that installing updates is no longer mandatory, and users will be able to completely skip it if they simply want to get to the desktop and start using their device right away. 'If you choose to skip updates, the latest features and security fixes will not be installed until you choose to install updates after getting to the desktop,' says<\/a> Aria, a Microsoft engineer working on the Windows Update Center.<\/p>\n

The feature has been tested for several months with select groups of users, but is now available to everyone. This change is part of a broader effort to address the most significant shortcomings of Windows 11. Last month, the company confirmed that it is working on a series of improvements aimed at making the operating system faster and less frustrating.
