Developers of the SDL (Simple DirectMedia Layer) library have adopted rules prohibiting the acceptance of changes containing code generated by large language models such as ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, and Grok. While using AI for identifying issues and analyzing submitted changes is allowed, the fixes for such issues must be created by humans. <\/p>\n
Based on the experience gathered from the project, problems identified using AI often turn out to be hallucinations that do not represent real issues or contain incorrect information. Developers reporting issues identified through AI must have a thorough understanding of the claimed problem and personally verify its existence. When submitting pull requests, the developer must confirm that they are the author of the code and are submitting their work under the Zlib license. <\/p>\n
The reasons for banning AI-assisted development include the incompatibility of AI-generated code with the Zlib license due to the inability to accurately determine the source of the code, as well as potential licensing conflicts arising from indirect code borrowing from projects under different licenses (since large language models are trained on code across various licenses, the generated code may potentially be interpreted as a derivative work). <\/p>\n
Additionally, it is worth mentioning the creation of two forks of the Vim text editor due to dissatisfaction with the increasing use of AI in preparing changes: <\/p>\n

Vim Classic \u2014 a fork of the Vim 8.2 code base, continuing support for the previous branch. The project was founded by Drew DeVault, the author of the Sway user environment, the Aerc email client, the Hare programming language, and the collaborative development platform SourceHut. The reasons for creating the fork include a rejection of Vim's policy regarding AI usage, a desire to maintain a clear conscience, and the wish to continue enjoying working with Vim.\n
EVi \u2014 a fork of the Vim 9.1.0 branch, which has not yet incorporated changes made with AI. <\/ul>\n
