Alkimia Interactive's director Reinhard Pollice shared insights in an interview PC Gamer<\/a><\/noindex> spoke about the team's approach to creating a remake of the cult fantasy role-playing game «Gothic» from Piranha Bytes.<\/p>\n

According to Pollice, early in the development of Gothic Remake, various ideas were considered, such as adding a mini-map, a character editor, and mini-games (like card games and fishing) to fill the world, but all were ultimately discarded.<\/p>\n

«We took this very seriously. We considered making it optional, but even that felt wrong. If you want to know where you are, just open the map,» explains Pollicha on the decision to omit the mini-map.\n<\/p>\n

What the developers of Gothic Remake were not afraid to change was the English version of the game. Pollicha believes that the poor translation was one of the reasons why the original «Gothic» did not become a hit in English-speaking countries.<\/p>\n

The German version of «Gothic» featured a grounded, realistic writing style that was aimed to be conveyed in the English release of Gothic Remake. The script was rewritten early in the production process.<\/p>\n

Compared to the original «Gothic», the remake will also include a full quest journal and an expanded crafting system: in addition to weapon crafting, an alchemy system for creating spells has been introduced.<\/p>\n

Gothic Remake will be released on June 5th<\/a><\/noindex> for PC (2699 rubles<\/a><\/noindex> downward API support (simultaneously with this in Steam<\/a><\/noindex>, GOG<\/a><\/noindex>), PS5, Xbox Series X and S. It promises a handcrafted and responsive world, new stories, and expansions of old ones, graphics powered by Unreal Engine 5, and a full translation into Russian.<\/p>\n
