Previously, Microsoft's Windows division president Pavan Davuluri announced<\/a><\/noindex>, that the company has a large-scale strategy to rebuild user trust in Windows 11. It was lost due to the relentless integration of artificial intelligence features at the expense of core principles \u2014 performance and reliability. The initiative to address these shortcomings has been internally named Windows K2, reported the resource Windows Central<\/a><\/noindex> citing its own sources.<\/p>\n

Windows K2 does not refer to a separate OS, but rather an ongoing initiative aimed at promoting high and stable quality in current and future versions of Windows. The three main focuses of the initiative are performance, quality, and reliability. They define the overall work on Windows \u2014 if one of these areas falls behind, the entire product suffers immediately.<\/p>\n

The company commits to considering feedback from users and participants in the Windows Insider program, analyzing telemetry data, and conducting focus groups with customers. An important aspect of the Windows K2 initiative is the restructuring of all departments \u2014 it\u2019s not only about addressing feedback and fixing issues in Windows 11, but also about the contribution each department makes; hence, there is a large-scale cultural shift happening within the company.\n<\/p>\n

The rapid development of new features will no longer be a priority \u2014 they will not appear in public preview builds until they reach a certain level of quality. This principle existed before, but now the bar has been raised. Microsoft will strengthen its ties with the community: there will be meetings for participants of the Windows Insider program, and Windows developers will become more open on social media and forums, providing direct answers to user questions and feedback.<\/p>\n

The priority is the performance of Windows 11: the company acknowledged that it allowed a decrease in speed in games, in the file manager 'Explorer', and even in user interface elements, including context menus. Currently, Windows 10 performs faster than Windows 11, and Microsoft is striving to rectify this. As for games, Valve's steamOS serves as a benchmark here, showing higher performance, and the situation can only be improved over the next two or three years. The third-party application File Pilot serves as a reference for 'Explorer.'<\/p>\n

Improvements are on the way, and the 'Windows Update Center' will norm the frequency of computer restarts to no more than once a month. Updates will be less noticeable \u2014 display and sound drivers will only be updated during a restart, rather than while the computer is in use. The number of unnecessary applications in Windows 11 will be reduced to minimize memory usage by the system, allowing for enhanced performance on both low-end and high-end machines, as well as portable gaming consoles.<\/p>\n

Finally, an acceleration of the user interface is expected. A key focus of Windows K2 is the redesign and optimization of WinUI 3: elements from the package will appear in more system components, affecting the taskbar and the control panel. Mechanisms for reducing latency and easing memory load will ensure the functionality of core features like the 'Start' menu even under heavy system load. Notably, advertisements will disappear from the 'Start' menu. There is no set completion date for the Windows K2 initiative \u2014 it is a long-term project that outlines principles determining which aspects are prioritized.<\/p>\n
