The first public release of the multimedia library LDL (Little DirectMedia Layer) has taken place, enabling the creation of graphical applications that can run on both modern and legacy systems (Windows 95+, Linux kernel distributions 2.0+, FreeBSD 3.0+). A simple cross-platform API is provided for window management and input device event handling. OpenGL 1.0-4.6 can be used for rendering. The code is supplied under the LGPL 3.0 license. <\/p>\n

This release is notable for the transition from C++98 to ANSI C (C89) to maximize portability and compatibility with older compilers and platforms, including DOS, Windows 95, and PlayStation 1. The project plans to evolve gradually: the first version introduces capabilities for window handling, input events, and graphics, after which development on a 2D renderer, sound and font handling tools, and backends for working with libraries SDL 1.2, SDL 2.x, SDL 3.x, SFML, and GLFW will begin. The use of SDL, SFML, and GLFW backends will allow applications to be built for platforms not directly supported in LDL without code modification. Future plans also include the creation of a universal API for working with sprites and 2D graphics that can be used independently of the selected backend (OpenGL, Vulkan, software rendering, libraries like SDL).
