Recently, Google published COSMO in the «Play Market» \u2014 «an experimental AI assistant app for Android devices». The app was subsequently removed from public access. This was reported by the resource 9to5Google<\/a><\/noindex>.<\/p>\n

Judging by the app's name (com.google.research.air.cosmo), its developer is a division of Google Research. The main goal of the project is to deploy AI functions locally on mobile devices. The app size is 1.13 GB, which can be attributed to the included AI model, Gemini Nano. Upon launch, it requests several system permissions, after which a simple chat interface opens.<\/p>\n

The AI assistant possesses numerous skills, including those of an AI agent. It works with checklists on the device; creates new text documents or prepares summaries of existing ones; creates calendar event entries; automates tasks in the browser; sets timers; conducts deep research; performs quick photo searches; conducts searches on Google; explains terms; offers advice and suggestions; aids in «understanding» people and events through context; assists in «remembering» events; and creates summaries of conversations when the context changes. <\/p>\n

In the COSMO settings, you can also choose the operation mode of the AI assistant: local, with the model running on the device; cloud, with the AI model connecting to external resources; and hybrid, allowing a combination of both types of models. Perhaps the company will provide more details about this project at the Google I\/O 2026 conference, which will begin on May 19.<\/p>\n
